Can't see past what I'm going through 🦯😎

By Jo

Feeling overwhelmed by life's challenges is a common experience, leaving many feeling trapped and unable to see beyond their current struggles. It's essential to recognize that this feeling isn't a personal failing; often, we simply haven't been taught how to handle such situations.

However, it's crucial to understand that this doesn't make us failures. Instead, it's an opportunity to come to grips with our circumstances and make choices about how we want to respond. We're faced with a decision: do we stay committed and rise above our challenges, or do we opt ourselves to a life of misery?

While it may seem harsh, confronting the reality of our situation is the first step toward growth. Controversy and adversity are inevitable parts of life, but it's how we respond to them that matters most. By embracing reality and acknowledging our struggles, we can begin to build resilience and find a way forward.

Remember, you're not alone in your struggles. Seek support, practice self-care, and cultivate a positive mindset. With time and effort, you can overcome even the toughest of challenges and emerge stronger on the other side. Keep pushing forward—there's hope for a brighter future ahead.

“What I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you..”

One thing in life that can’t be taken away from you is your skills. Some are natural gifts, others are developed through experience, training, and effort.

Sometimes we forget how skilled we are and how seemingly unrelated accomplishments tie into your overall growth and potential.

One Skill Goes A Long Way

In college, I had an entry-level retail job. I started off as a cashier and would “front” or organize sections of the store at the end of the day. Basic retail stuff. Short dates are food items that are close to expiring and are typically marked down to avoid the store taking a loss. I was really good at finding these items and became the go-to person to save the store a little cash in this area.

I was unaware at the time, but the skill I had was strong attention to detail.

Due to this, I was offered a promotion to loss prevention. I’ve never done loss prevention before, but my attention to detail made me a strong candidate for the position.

Years later, out of college and working in healthcare, I entered into a director-level role which requires me to perform complex audits and develop standards to maintain compliance. The stakes are also much higher than finding “short dates” on the shelves.

The tasked have changed, but I am using the same skillset, my attention to detail, although it’s evolved a bit over time and has opened the door to more opportunities.
