The Impact of COVID-19: Better or Worse? 😷
By Jo
COVID-19 has undeniably transformed the world since it became a global phenomenon. Whether these changes are for better or worse is a matter of perspective, heavily influenced by individual experiences and missed opportunities due to the altered environment.
On one hand, the pandemic has accelerated technological adoption and reshaped the way we work, learn, and communicate. Remote work, once a perk, has become a necessity for many, offering flexibility and eliminating long commutes. Online learning platforms have seen immense growth, making education more accessible.
On the other hand, the pandemic has exposed existing inequalities. Essential workers, often in low-paying jobs, have faced increased risks and burdens. Many people have missed significant life events—graduations, weddings, even funerals—due to restrictions and lockdowns (I personally have been impacted by all these areas). Small businesses have struggled to survive, leading to job losses and economic instability for many families. Mental health issues have surged as people cope with isolation, uncertainty, and the loss of loved ones.
COVID-19 also seemed to rip the Band-Aid off for most folks, forcing a rapid adaptation to new realities. This dynamic shift has been a terror, highlighting the importance of resilience and adaptability in the face of unprecedented times.
So, how do you feel about yourself in this new world? Are you on your "A" game? Have you been able to bounce back if you suffered a few blows? Or did you manage to “Win” during this whole time? The pandemic has been a test of personal and collective resilience. Some have found new strengths and opportunities for growth, while others continue to navigate the challenges.
COVID-19 has been a catalyst for change, both good and bad. It has pushed us to re-evaluate our priorities, adapt to new ways of living, and find strength in adversity. The way we perceive these changes depends on our individual journeys and how we choose to respond to the ongoing challenges. I just hope you manage to find your way through it all.
A New World Is Waiting for You 🌍

One of the major lessons from the events of the past few years is that a large percentage of our education experiences can be completed with only a computer and internet access.
This was a disruptive change, and as a result, it created opportunity and more competition for remote work and education. People really began to question paying thousands of dollars for an overvalued degree when they can pay a few hundred bucks and be just as competitive in the job market without the debt.
The changes will come. It’s up to us to determine how much they will disrupt us or if there is an opportunity for us to take advantage of.

How You Want It to Be
Innovation is a permanent fixture in our society. We are in a steady state of competition with forces within and out of our control.
With language model tools like ChatGPT, CoPilot, and Claude, we have access to an enormous amount of resources that were previously difficult or expensive to obtain for the average person. We are just beginning to see how this technology is impacting our day-to-day lives.
Take fast food, for example. Frontline workers in the fast-food industry are being replaced by AI. Chances are very slim anyone can stop this.
Well, there is something you can do. Let’s start with a prompt I created for this scenario.
My responses to this included culinary arts, food safety, nutrition, management, technology/automation, menu innovation, and the list goes on!
Have you ever heard the saying, “The only thing that will remain the same is change”?

You don’t have to wait on the sidelines as old systems you once benefited from fall into obsolescence.
Here are a few prompt templates you can use to get started!
I noticed that the university/school curriculum does not include [insert topic]. I believe this is important as a skill to be competitive and independent in society, and I would like to develop a learning path to learn this on my own.
I'm interested in working in [insert industry]. I'd like to explore a certification and self-directed project path that will increase my knowledge and marketability in the job market.
No one taught me about financial responsibility. I'd like to create a two-month curriculum where I learn a little bit more about financial responsibility each day. I have 5 minutes a day available. Please provide a detailed plan and suggest resources for each lesson.
The world has changed. We have the tools to create and discover NEW solutions for ourselves.
