Relatable Challenges within a Job ⭕

By Jo

In the world of healthcare, red tape can often feel like an unavoidable obstacle. But what exactly is red tape, and why does it seem to be a issue so frequently?

Understanding Red Tape

Red tape refers to excessive rules/regulations that can result in delays and inefficiencies in any process of your daily tasks (can be applied outside of a job setting). In simpler terms, it’s the hurdles that make getting things done more complicated and time-consuming. This often involves layers of approval, complex procedures, and compliance requirements that can and will slow down what may seem to be a easy process.

A Red-latable Example

Imagine a scenario where a healthcare provider (ex. Doctor, Pharmacist, Therapist) needs to implement a new patient management system to streamline operations. The software promises improved patient care and increased efficiency. However, before it can be used, the provider must navigate a system of required approvals: from securing budgetary approvals, obtaining IT department endorsements, to meeting compliance standards set by various regulatory bodies.

Each step requires documentation, meetings, and reviews, which can delay the implementation for days, weeks, and months. While the provider is waiting, they continue to deal with outdated systems, impacting their ability to provide timely and efficient care.

Why It Matters

Red tape isn’t just an inconvenience; it has real-world implications. It can slow down innovation, impact patient care, and create frustration among staff. Understanding and anticipating these challenges can help professionals navigate through them more effectively and advocate for more streamlined processes.

In your own work, especially in healthcare, recognizing the potential for red tape and preparing for it can make a significant difference. While it might not be possible to eliminate these barriers entirely, being aware of them allows you to better manage expectations and plan your strategies accordingly. Just make sure you are doing all you can to make more efficient & effective decisions in order to make your life less stressful. Be that person that has a workaround to everything while still playing by the rules!

The Problem With Waiting For Permission ⏳

By Marcus

"Nothing is more precious than time, and nothing more terrifying than to realize it’s slipping away."

-Anonymous

Time is a finite resource. A great indicator of this is how we put a premium on systems, products, and technology that increase our ability to save time.

Think about how faster internet costs more, or getting your mail delivered overnight is more expensive than standard shipping. The value is in the speed of delivery, and speed is a derivative of time.

The value of our time is undeniable. When it comes to success, we would rather have it sooner than later. How quickly we take action does matter.

When we feel we have to “wait” for permission to take action, we are losing valuable time.

Opportunity Cost

Of course, I am not talking about breaking laws. What I’m trying to communicate is waiting for the “perfect conditions,” or the “stars to align,” or waiting for people to give you the “thumbs up” to proceed.

In your life, have things ever gone wrong when it’s convenient for you? Have you ever thought, “Today would be a good day to get a flat tire!”

Why would we expect opportunity and risk to align in our favor when it’s convenient for us?

Take Initiative in Your Life

Initiative is not valued in some organizations, and this is crucial to understand. Some employers expect the status quo; however, there are environments where initiative and innovation are valued. Try your best to understand your audience.

Your agenda and the agenda of others won’t always be in alignment. What you feel is your number one priority will be someone else's afterthought.

No one will care or value your time or goals as much as you will.

Don’t wait.

Continue to grow and lead yourself to new opportunities.

"Time is free, but it’s priceless. You can’t own it, but you can use it. You can’t keep it, but you can spend it. Once you’ve lost it, you can never get it back."

– Harvey Mackay

Inconvenience is nothing but a setup to springboard forward
