Performing at Your Best While Mentally Tired🥱

By Jo

Being mentally tired yet still required to perform at your best is an incredibly difficult challenge. It's a situation many of us find ourselves in, where the demands of life continue to press on us, regardless of our mental state. This struggle is amplified when you're dealing with groups of people who oppose you or are misinformed about what's really going on.

Mental fatigue can feel like a heavy fog, clouding your judgment, robbing your energy, and making even the simplest tasks seem never-ending. It's a state where every decision feels like a burden, and maintaining focus becomes a TALL order. Yet, despite this exhaustion, life doesn’t pause. Responsibilities, deadlines, and expectations persist, demanding that you perform at your highest level even when you're running on empty.

The difficulty of this situation is compounded when dealing with people who don't understand or appreciate your efforts. Whether it's due to opposition or misinformation, their lack of support or outright resistance can feel like an additional weight on your already burdened shoulders. It's hard enough to push through mental exhaustion without the added challenge of navigating misunderstandings.

In these moments, the struggle isn't just about meeting expectations; it's about finding the inner strength to keep going when everything inside you screams to stop. It's about drawing on reserves of resilience and determination that you might not even realize you have. It's about continuing to perform, to show up, and to give your best, even when you're not sure you have anything left to give.

The reality is, being mentally tired while still required to perform is a testament to your character and dedication. It’s a silent struggle that often goes unnoticed, but it's one of the truest tests of your resolve. You keep moving forward, not because it's easy, but because you know it’s necessary. And in doing so, you prove to yourself that you are capable of more than you ever thought.

A Chamber of Echoes 🔊

By Marcus

The idea of surrounding yourself with “like-minded” people can be a double-edged sword.

Depending on what end you’re on, the outcomes can be drastically different.

If you live in America, I think it’s obvious that many people are experiencing hardships when looking for employment or experiencing sudden layoffs.

These past few weeks, I’ve watched several videos on YouTube of people sharing layoff stories, challenges finding new employment, finances, impending homelessness, and the list goes on. Most of us NEED our jobs to survive.

After I watched a few videos, I could see how some people had lost hope, while others are doing their best to survive and maintain their sanity.

What was unexpected (I should have known better) was YouTube began to recommend a TON of videos with people sharing similar stories. So many that it dominated my recommended watch list, and it really was an endless supply of people going through it.

For a couple of days, I thought to myself if I continue to watch these videos, I will begin to think there aren’t any people that have made it to the other side of this struggle. I’ve been laid off before and it was one of the worst experiences of my professional career.

I felt that if I continued to watch this type of content it would be a slippery slope into a pessimistic mindset, and I quickly needed to shift my time and energy into focusing on solutions to share with others.

There’s Always A Bull Market Somewhere

As an investor, the phrase "there’s always a bull market somewhere” is critical. If I want to carry my own weight as an investor, I must be able to find opportunity in any market condition.

Understanding that certain assets perform differently in various economic environments is key. There are sectors and industries that have an inverse relationship.

An example is that restaurants and hospitality do poorly in a recession, but utilities and healthcare historically perform well during these times. While the restaurant owners are struggling and laying off workers, healthcare positions are in demand and job security is more stable.

The main takeaway here is having a framework to seek opportunity during a downturn in your life.

Engineering Opportunity

A useful strategy when identifying job opportunities is finding new ways to discover where the demand is. Typically, most people go directly to job boards on sites like LinkedIn or Indeed, but we’ve learned that in this era of “fake job postings” and high competition just logging into these accounts each day isn’t enough.

One strategy I’ll recommend to find your “job bull market” is getting on the other side of the job search. What I mean is finding ways to see what the other side is looking for.

Reddit is a free tool for this strategy. There are many subreddit communities that are specifically for recruiters and human resource professionals. These are communities of people sharing their challenges, successes, and general trends within their industries.

I was on a recruiting subreddit this week, and one of the discussions was about recruiters having a recent demand for insurance positions and how clients are really needing to fill these positions.

Now, insurance may not interest you, but if you NEED a job, maybe take a look at open insurance positions. Also, a dive into a human resource Reddit may reveal similar information to give you an edge in the hiring process or other career insights you were unaware of.

Times are hard for many now, and it’s hard to find an edge in this job market. There is so much negative sentiment, we can find ourselves consumed by it. I think most of us can empathize with the struggles.

Be mindful of the energy and ideas you surround yourself with as it can have a hidden effect on your productivity and outlook. We can put energy into supporting others AND energy into creating ways to overcome.

Remember that you can find your way out and there is an opportunity out there for you. It may require you to embrace new and unorthodox strategies; however, part of being able to survive in this world is being able to adapt to your environment.
