A Groundbreaking Mindset for Your Future ⚠️

By Jo

Putting yourself first often gets misinterpreted as selfishness, but it’s far from that. In reality, it’s about mindfulness—making choices today that your future self will thank you for. It’s about understanding that the actions, habits, and priorities you set now create the foundation for the life you’ll lead later. When approached with the right mindset, putting yourself first is not just beneficial—it’s transformative.

Think Long-Term, Not Short-Term
Too often, we make decisions based on immediate gratification without considering the long-term implications. Whether it’s neglecting your health, overlooking financial planning, or staying in situations that don’t align with your values, these short-sighted choices can come back to haunt you. Imagine the relief of knowing your future self won’t have to clean up messes you could have avoided. By acting with foresight, you’re essentially investing in a better version of yourself.

Future-Proof Your Life
One way to prioritize yourself is by making decisions that align with your goals and values. This could mean pursuing education or skills that advance your career, taking time to cultivate healthy relationships, or practicing self-care to maintain your mental and physical well-being. It might feel inconvenient now, but these efforts compound into something extraordinary over time. You’re laying the groundwork for opportunities and stability your future self will cherish.

Avoid the Bite of Regret
Regret is one of life’s heaviest burdens, but it’s often preventable. When you prioritize everyone else at the expense of your own needs or fail to act in your own best interest, you leave the door open for regret to creep in. Whether it’s saying yes when you wanted to say no, staying in environments that no longer serve you, or procrastinating on your dreams, these choices can weigh on you later.

The Mindset Shift
The key is to balance selflessness with self-preservation. You can still show up for others while ensuring you’re not neglecting yourself in the process. Think of it like building a solid foundation for a house—without it, nothing else stands securely. When you put yourself first in a mindful way, you’re not only benefiting yourself but also those around you. A stronger, healthier, more fulfilled version of you has more to give.

Small Choices, Big Impact
It doesn’t always take drastic change to start putting yourself first. It could be as simple as sticking to a budget, saying no to unnecessary obligations, or dedicating 30 minutes a day to self-improvement. These small, consistent choices build momentum and create a ripple effect that shapes your future.

At its core, putting yourself first isn’t about shutting others out; it’s about showing up as the best version of yourself. Your future self is depending on you to make the right choices now. Be the person today that your future self will look back on and say, Thank you

Is time on your side?

Is time waiting for you to get your life together?

That would be nice, or maybe life gave you an extension like a school project you’re late on…

We typically wish we had more time, but that’s rarely the case. When I created Part I of this series, "Your New Year Arc", it was meant to kick off a new chapter of your life. In Part I, we focused on reclaiming control and taking the first steps toward meaningful change in your life.

Taking a break at times is a necessity; however, you may find yourself in a position where you don’t have the luxury to do so.

This is where you take time to build on the momentum you’ve skillfully created for yourself, and now it’s up to you to enter the next phase…

Part II: Faster

Excitement Fades & Delays

By now, most people’s New Year’s resolutions are hitting their end phase. Of course, we know this wasn’t the goal, but it’s a reality. This is why I don’t agree with New Year’s resolutions. Their framework isn’t built to sustain long-term success. It’s more of a poorly manufactured dopamine hit with quickly diminishing returns.

If you’ve been a part of the New Year’s gym/fitness rush, you’ve probably noticed the crowds beginning to die down, and it’s back to mostly the same people.

This is your opportunity to create a new cycle of behavior that benefits you. You pay the price of time and energy, but it’s worth it. You may find yourself alone in this process—embrace the isolation. There’s power in isolation. Don’t be scared to discover what you are capable of.

Fear of Failure

Fear can be paralyzing. This mental roadblock of failure must be defeated in order to move closer to your goals.

Yes, there is value in strategically waiting for the right time, but that strategy should include contingencies that anticipate the obstacles and setbacks that could arise.

If moving faster toward your goals was a level in a video game, overcoming fear of failure would be the final boss.

Give yourself an opportunity to see what you are capable of when you execute with consistency.

Don’t fade yourself. Move quickly.
